i-D magazine, is a british magazine and is one of the most iconic and well known fashion, music and art publications available on the shelves.
It was founded in 1980 by former art directer of Vogue Terry Jones. Something that i found really interesting is that i-D was first available as a zine, the text was printed (or typed) with a type writer and was far from the thick glossy edition that creative fanatics recognise today. However, the magazine has stayed true to its roots and still includes essences of raw youth culture, individual street style and a certain intriguing attitude.
The magazine always, without fail, has amazing typography and layouts and even more incredible photography. All the "hot off the press" designers, artists, musicians, photographers, innovators can be found within each issue and the interviews are always fresh and not the same old formal interrogation.
I myself have always been a big fan of i-D and even though it is easily accessible using the internet (www.idonline.com) i have always preferred to buy it, & have it, & keep it. the covers are iconic and immediately draw your attention. famous faces such as karl lagerfeld, agyness deyn, abbey lee kershaw, kate moss and willy vanderperre have graced the covers, just to name a few.
i-D is mainstream and has become commercial but is still respected widely as a great creative publication and will remain one of my favourites.
