Autumn is Night

Autumn is Night

Hoorah, autumn is on the horizon at last! Don’t get me wrong, I love the summer as I’m a water sports/beach enthusiast, but to me (fashion-wise) it’s the best time of the year.

Annually, September provides that stomach churning sensation of a new term, despite the fact that your school years are behind you. However, for me this in turn constitutes as an opportunity to use that fresh outlook and start new adventures and not just within your closet. Perhaps you want to endeavour further academically or on a spiritual level, all of which will naturally enhance your wardrobe anyway! Basically, September is a chance to begin something fresh and novel, its almost like a second New Year!

We are aware that many trends reappear every season so its no surprise that knitwear is at the forefront. Consequently, turtlenecks are high on the agenda and you may have already noticed the high street displaying the item. Do not forget (as previously mentioned on DV Closet) that adding extra bling is a big yes this season, so complement with that chunky necklace.

There is a sense of reminiscing the late 1970s this autumn; think chequered culottes with on the shoulder jackets, and you are on the right track. The Paris chic rendition of such a decade is represented through the tailoring that was the rage then for ones fashion wardrobe. Therefore, strap on those riding boots, neck scarfs and white blouses.

I read recently that the princess moment is over and it’s more to do with the ugly sisters - style wise. What will incorporate such a vision is the uber trend of bright colours from neon vibes to fluid greens, including ghastly yet highly approved frills and bows.

Another top ten (and returning trend) is the gothic revival. I am a tad of a fan, as I find this an easy addition to a simple outfit, delicately making it a bit more avant-garde. My passion also comes from the historic momentum and growing up with idols in the form of Alexander McQueen.

Leopard print and new western (as we now call it) has been a firm favourite these past few seasons, therefore, seeing it appear for this A/W is no surprise. Obviously, when a trend reappears so frequently the good news is, it becomes easier to custom. Mainly because its popularity has created simplicity, as often as these trends do, so don that white shirt with suede jacket and twin with denim, leopard print accessories/ankle boots!

All in all, autumn is a time to experiment with layers and incorporate new personal fashion goals along with developing traditional ones. The wonderful thing about autumn, is the versatility and resourcefulness that occurs with ones daily outfit. I for one cannot wait to start donning those vibrant layers.
