On Track, On Trend
Posted in Trend Alert
It would seem that athleisure-wear is growing in strength, not only are we continuing to don the casual domain, other trends have formulated from such premise. With sheer audacity, its no wonder sale figures are booming for regular sports brands and search engines are afflicted with vintage and contemporary athletic styles. High scorers Nike and Adidas are running with the prevalent trend, we are also being reintroduced to the 90s cult label Ellesse, while Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren are ‘retro-repro’ as we speak.
An item in particular (that at present) is a must-have for every fashionista is the classic tracky bottoms. I myself have witnessed fellow peers and influencers who once claimed they would never be seen in such attire, now displaying it proudly. Lets face it, this item is more than confortable, the fact that we can walk the runway-streets in ease and style is a bonus for me, especially as a mother to two small children.
The late and great Karl Lagerfeld once pronounced that ‘sweatpants are a sign of defeat’ and we cannot deny that trackies have been denoted to such conformity as admitting your life had hit a low point. However, not any more, 2019 seems to have had a major breakthrough as the horizon widens to those purchasing such a major fashion statement.
For this season, the ultimate in lazy-wear is enjoying a lux makeover, replacing jeans, tailored trousers and even smart-casual staple menswear. From Balenciaga to Rick Owens; SS19 menswear is packed with elasticated waistbands and loosely covered legs.
As mentioned in last weeks article, skinny fatigue has hit new heights – we are witnessing more and more celebs and influences donning their ‘off-duty’ attire, which they are proud to post socially.
We are observing both womenswear and menswear taking on board such a lux look, as it becomes the key part of the sportswear trend and now a huge business for the industry. The beauty of such a trend as athluxury is that it offers our wardrobe, much-improved versions of pieces we already own and wear.
From Alexander McQueen to Chanel, mixing with the elite sports brands has become a fashion phenomenon that is going nowhere. Online outlets are claiming a continual increase in casualwear purchases and fashion-insiders, street-stylers and of course, celebs are constantly donning such street cred. So, if you haven’t already, perhaps it is time to admit that slouch wear is not just about laying around the house, but more slaying it on the street – comfortably.
