As we gleefully leap into springtime, it determines the notion that thoughtful decisions need to be made in regards to our wardrobe. Let us not forget though, our minds may also aspire to fathom upcoming trends as we process such envisagement of our imperative individual summer style; busy times.
Considering the array of global fashion movements at present, there is unsurprisingly a real mix, but ultimately, what is prominent in SS19 is colour - blatantly.
Starting with the obvious; colour-blocking really came into its own in the noughties, but the bold design first arose in the 1940s in the form of YSL’s ground-breaking dress. However, the intention was discarded as a wearable item and considered more of an art piece, for me, such a historic fact confirms the notion that fashion is a form of art. The design was essentially modelled after Piet Mondrian’s work and debuted at the AW1946 YSL show; although, colour-blocking wasn’t readily accepted until the 1950s. However, in 2019, anything goes really, from brightness to conflicting, the edgier the more superior basically!
Obviously, with the current trend being one of attention seeking, how rather apt that neon is becoming stronger on the street style stakes. At first, some were a tad dubious as whether to delve to the high-vis jacket attitude, but as we get closer to summer days, it has become quite clear that such a vibe is uber-trending. Neon brights were lighting the runway at Henry Holland and one of my firm favourites Naeem Khan for this SS19, whether its wraps, separates or sharp tailoring, its all about the highlighting this summer.
After my last article titled hippie-boho (trend), it was mentioned that tie-dye was reigning for the coming months. However, put to one side your vision of the homemade procedure where garments are being coloured in a bucket of bleach with a wooden spoon. In 2019, tie-dye is far more sophisticated; from fluid silhouettes, sharp blazers and chic midi skirts, the refined ambience is a plenty.
Well, if you are tempted to follow suit of this glowing, vibrant SS trend, then why not go full-on summer with bright canary yellow. The colour is already bursting on to the high street and street style-scene; so expect to witness plenty of sunshine parading this summer-literally.
Stating the obvious, but SS19 looks set to be one colourful season with copious amounts of dramatic entrances. As with all trends, they are not tailored to everyone’s taste, but never forget, one can always tame, adjust, or simply apply their own interpretation. Anyhow, as its been clear for many seasons now, fashion statements are all about personal proclamations, so why not do so in a collection of colour.
