Vintage and Antique Shopping in Hastings

Vintage and Antique Shopping in Hastings

Posted in Travel Vibes

Not the most exotic of locations, I took the train down to Brighton this weekend, and instead of hanging out in the ever-so-popular city, we decided to go somewhere a little different: Hastings.

Once only known for fairground rides, fish & chips and old-fashioned sweet shops, Hastings is now a hub of gorgeous vintage boutiques and antique shops. Taking a walk towards the Old Town and wandering down George Street and the High Street, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of vintage we found.

I could go on and on about all the shops we saw, but I decided I would narrow it down to three instead!

1. The Wardrobe (64A The High Street)

The Wardrobe Clothes Agency is for designer fashion lovers. Here you can find plenty of Vivienne Westwood, as well as unique Versace pieces, Missoni, Moschino and rare vintage collectables. The prices aren’t cheap but they certainly aren’t unreasonable for the quality of products.

2. West Hill Arcade (Westhill Arcade, George St)

Not so much a shop, but a little arcade of vintage and antiques mixed with the new to compliment them.  Here I found authentic 60s and 70s pieces, with strange and wonderful antiques and a fabulous little shop inspired by Mexican culture. The pricing in the arcade varied but was all very affordable.

3. 20th Century Fashion & Design (39 High Street)

Now this was my favourite, and I ended up buying from here! On first look it simply looks to be a antique furniture shop, but upon further inspection the back of the shop is filled to the brim with 50s style vintage mixed with newer clothing. Expect gingham shirts and skirts, circle skirts, prom dresses and beautiful off-the-shoulder tops. I bought the most stunning blue circle skirt and a ruched off-the-shoulder pink top to wear together! The prices were not cheap but worth it for the quality of vintage and also the shop owner was lovely to natter to!

If you want to make the most of the sun while we still have it, Hastings is a perfect choice for some culture and a day by the seaside in the same vicinity. After wandering round the shops, you can refuel with some fish and chips and have the perfect end to a day of shopping! Whilst Brighton is lovely, this is a great alternative if you want to avoid the weekend crowds.
